Overview

The Preparatory Course for BCA Academy Diploma Admission Test prepares students to sit for the BCA Academy Diploma Admission Test administered by BCA Academy.
BCA Academy is the education and training arm of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), Singapore. Since its establishment in 1984, BCA Academy has been providing quality training and education pathways for a diverse group of audience. It offers wide range of built environment programmes which are rigorous and practice-oriented. At BCA Academy, training pedagogy is enhanced through various on-campus learning galleries and experiential learning features of the training facilities. Through the years, the Academy has been producing quality graduates who excel in their jobs. BCA Academy also partners with established universities to deliver leadership programmes to develop the managerial and technical competencies of the industry leaders, who play a crucial role to future-proof the built environment sector.

Objective

The objective of the course is to enable students to acquire the academic knowledge and skills of the subjects offered I.e. English and Mathematics so that students are prepared to take the BCA Academy Diploma Admission Test administered by BCA Academy.

Course Information

Course Structure

The course consists of the following 2 modules:

i. English
ii. Mathematics

English

At the end of the course, the students should have acquired a good understanding of the English Language covering grammar, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, determiners, smiles, proverbs, verbal phrase, vocabulary building and figures of speech.

Student would be able to speak and write proper texts and sentences with the following :

  1. Levels using a wide range of vocabulary with suitable register and tone.
  2. Show clear organization of development of ideas in their spoken and written texts.
  3. Identify main ideas an details in spoken texts as well as take notes.
  4. Understand visual and written text genres at literal, inferential and evaluative levels and
    evaluate their use of language for purpose and impact.
  5. Speak and write appropriately in response to written, spoken and visual texts.
  6. Speak and read aloud clearly using correct pronunciation, pace, tone and stress.

Mathematics
At the end of module, student should have acquired the mathematical skills such as arithmetic, mensuration, algebra, graphs, geometry, trigonometry, statistics and probability, vectors and set language and notification. The student should be able to :

  1. Understand and apply mathematical concepts and skills in various contexts.
  2. Formulate and solve problems by data organization and analysis, application of
    appropriate solution techniques and interpretation of mathematical results.
  3. Use mathematical explanations and arguments to make inferences and solve higher order
    thinking problems.

The delivery of modules is subject to change and may not follow the sequence as shown above.

5 sessions per week x 3 hours

100% External Examination​

There is no internal assessment. External examinations are administered by BCA Academy.

    Progression Pathway

    Upon successful completion of the course, students may apply to study relevant Diploma courses offered by BCA Academy or enroll into higher education studies at diploma levels offered by British Education Centre

    Requirements for Enrolment

    Minimum entry age: 16 years old

    Minimum academic requirements: Completed GCE ‘O’ Level or Year 3 Senior High School or Secondary
    School Education (10 years) or equivalent.

    Minimum Language Proficiency: Pass English at GCE “O” Level or Senior Middle High School or 10 years of formal education or equivalent
